The Derby Community Foundation has supported community improvement projects within our city since the Foundation’s inception in 1994. In the past ten years, the Derby Community Foundation has established a reputation within our community for providing great enhancements. Among the accomplishments of the Derby Community Foundation are:

• a 7-phase Bicycle and Pedestrian Path that extends over 14 miles, linking residential areas, businesses and parks together;

• the purchase, installation, landscaping and lighting of 11 bronze sculptures throughout the city (see Photo Gallery);

• partnering with the City of Derby and Verus Bank to relocate 18 mature trees to the John Pair Memorial Gateway on K-15;

• awarding nearly $4,000 in grants to five Derby organizations through the inaugural Community Enrichment Grant Program in December 2007;

• the establishment of Greenscapers, a program that matches volunteer gardeners with public plots of land.

Community foundations are growing in national popularity. More than 900 operate today, including foundations in Hutchinson, Topeka, Garden City, Dodge City, Emporia and Pratt. Instead of competing with local charities, experience shows that these foundations actually increase funds available for grants and gifts.

Community foundations bring a number of benefits. They are designed to receive gifts, invest the funds and direct the earnings back to the community.

The Derby Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 corporation (a non-profit) which means all contributions made to the foundation are tax deductible.
